The XTerra Preparative RP18 columns are hybrid-based, reversed-phase C18 columns that use Waters' unique embedded polar group technology to enhance peak shape performance for very basic chemicals. Comparing these first-generation columns to a silica-based column, they offer improved pH stability.
With the help of the proprietary Hybrid Particle Technology (HPT), which converts one out of every three silanol groups into a methyl group during particle formation, XTerra Columns were created to combine the greatest qualities of silica and polymer-bonded phases. The XTerra Column solves the drawbacks of silica-based materials while still preserving high mechanical strength, high efficiency, chemical resistance, and easy scale up from analytical to preparative chromatography thanks to the Hybrid Particle Technology.
