XTerra Shield RP8 Column, 125Å, 3.5 µm, 4.6 mm X 250 mm, 1/pk
Based on Water’s patented Hybrid Particle Technology, the XTerra family of columns has allowed chromatographers to break boundaries and realize the full potential of their separations by overcoming the traditional challenges associated with silica-based packing materials and lab equipment. By replacing one out of every three silanols with a methyl group during synthesis, this Hybrid Particle Technology allows for hydrophobicity to be distributed throughout the entire structure of the particle backbone. This results in the rugged particle found in XTerra Shield RP8 Columns, making them able to be operated at high speeds, high temperatures, and high pH.
The general-purpose, hybrid-based, reversed-phase C8 XTerra Shield RP8 Column incorporates the patented embedded polar group technology from Waters, allowing for improved peak shape performance when used with highly basic compounds. As a first-generation column, it is able to provide superior pH stability compared to silica-based columns used in similar applications. After end-capping and bonding processes, these columns have 33% fewer residual silanols, offering exceptionally sharp, high-efficiency peaks.
To protect against contamination and extend the life of these columns, Waters recommends the use of XTerra Shield RP8 VanGuard Cartridge, 125å, 3.5 µm, 3.9 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk. Each XTerra column is manufactured using ultrapure reagents that control the chemical composition and purity of the Hybrid particle, and each step Is conducted within narrow tolerances. All columns are individually tested.
Columns are sold individually and have an inner diameter of 4.6 mm with a length of 250 mm. This column features a particle size of 3.5 µm and a pore size of 125å.
What Are The Operating Limits Of XTerra Shield RP8 Columns?
XTerra columns can be operated at pressures up to 6000 psi, 400 bar, or 40 Mpa. In order to enhance selectivity, lower solvent viscosity, and increase mass transfer rates, a temperature range of 20 – 60 C is recommended. However, any temperature rise above ambient can have a negative impact on lifetime. The pH range for these columns is 2 to 12. This is a widened usable pH range when compared to silica-based columns, though lifetime will vary based on what buffers are used, the concentration of those buffers, and the temperatures at which they are used.
