In this video, Paula Hong, Waters Corporation, discusses ways to make the development of chromatographic separations more effective and more efficient. Traditional methods rely on screening through organic solvents and reversed phase columns with different properties to achieve our targeted selectivity, or adjusting temperature and gradient slope to improve resolution. Small, incremental changes in pH can also have a dramatic effect on separation. Waters Corporation has been developing ways to use the quaternary ACQUITY UPLC H-Class System as a tool to automatically blend buffers to control mobile phase pH. Auto•Blend Plus is a technology that is included within the instrument operating software of the ACQUITY UPLC H-Class System. Auto•Blend Plus enables direct programming of the method in units of pH and solvent strength and can be used in methods for both small and large molecules.
