Product Description

Paired -Ion Chromatography (PIC® Reagents) provide an easy solution for analyzing samples containing ionic species. These reagents allow ionic compounds to be separated by reverse-phase chromatography, saving time by allowing simultaneous assay of acids, bases, amphoteric and neutral compounds. PIC A Low UV is a 5 vial/pkg of tertrabutylammonium phosphate in a workable UV range in mobile phase 240+ nm.

PIC Reagent A

Built to solve the common problem of analyzing samples containing ionic species, Paired-Ion Chromatography (PIC) allows ionic compounds to be separated by reverse-phase chromatography. This ability eliminations problems related to precise pH and temperature control, reproducibility, and short lab equipment lifetime that are often associated with ion exchange. The versatility of PIC saves time by allowing simultaneous assay of acids, bases, amphoteric, and neutral compounds.

PIC Reagent A Low UV is a 5 vial per package product containing tetrabutylammonium phosphate in a workable UV range in mobile phase 240+ nm. Low UV PIC is best used to analyze ionic compounds at a low UV and has been specially formulated to eliminate background interference in the low UV range. This provides methods development opportunities for ion pairs without a chromophore in the working range of regular PIC reagents, as well as increased sensitivity potential for compounds ordinarily used with existing PIC reagents. Chromatographers will also see a potential for selectivity changes due to new buffers when compared to regular PIC reagents. PIC A is best for the separation of acids, while PIC B8 Low UV Reagent is recommended for bases.

All Waters PIC reagents are purified and quality controlled by liquid chromatography to ensure consistent results and have been pre-formulated for ease of use. All reagents are buffered to a pH appropriate for most acidic and basic compounds.

What Is Paired-Ion Chromatography?

Paired-ion chromatography is a technique for performing ion-exchange separations on a reversed-phase column. Hydrophobic paired-ion reagents are added to the mobile phase and adsorbed onto the stationary phase, where they enhance the interaction of oppositely charged sample components with the stationary phase. A paired-ion reagent increases the retention of oppositely charged solutes, decreases the retention of equally charged solutes, and does not affect the retention of uncharged solutes.

How Should I Store PIC Reagents?

Waters PIC Reagents arrive premixed and already buffered. When needed, add 1 vial of reagent to 1 L of mobile phase and filter. When vials are exposed to lower temperatures, crystals may form. If this happens, gently warm the vial until crystals go back into the solution. Store the unopened reagent for up to one year at room temperature. Mobile phases containing the reagent can be stored at 4 C indefinitely without a loss of effectiveness.
