The Sep-Pak XPoSure Plus Short Cartridge is an invaluable piece of lab equipment that traps aldehydes in the air by reacting them with acidified 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine(DNPH), forming stable hydrazone derivatives. Aldehydes and ketones react in situ to form the hydrazone derivatives. The derivatization reaction takes place during sample collection. HPLC method is used to, later on, elute and analyze the derivatives.

How Can Analytes Be Isolated And Cleaned Up?
To isolate and clean up sample components of interest, two general SPE strategies can be implemented. When the compounds of interest are present in levels too low for accurate and precise measurement, the retention-cleanup-elution strategy may be utilized. Through this strategy, concentration of dilute samples and trace enrichment of compounds is achieved. When the required sample component is available in a higher concentration, the pass-through cleanup strategy may be chosen. It is noteworthy, however, that no sample enrichment occurs when a pass-through cleanup strategy is used.
