How Are Reversed-Phase Packings Conditioned?

Reversed-phase silicas and nonpolar adsorption media usually are conditioned with a water-miscible organic solvent such as methanol, followed by water or an aqueous buffer. Methanol wets the surface of the sorbent and penetrates bonded alkyl phases, allowing water to wet the silica surface efficiently.
