The guard columns are designed and intended to maintain analytical column performance by extending their lifespan. However, they are not intended for improving the columns resolving power. They are easy to use and attached with the analytical columns. Once added as part of the system, the guard column removes all chemical and particulate materials from the mobile phase, protecting the column from harm and the analysis from any impurities and interference.
