Product Description

The ACQUITY BEH C8 sorbent is less retentive compared to the ACQUITY BEH C18 sorbent. A method developer may prefer the speed offered by a less retentive column, while improving peak shape and chromatographic performance. The trifunctionally bonded BEH particles offer the widest usable pH range (1-12), superior low pH stability, and ultra-low column bleed. The VanGuard pre-column connects directly to the inlet of the ACQUITY UPLC column which minimizes extra columns volumes and reduces leaking by eliminating additional connections.

ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 VanGuard Pre-column, 130Å, 1.7 µm, 2.1 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk

When the speed of a less retentive column is preferred, C8 sorbent offers less retention along with improved peak shape and chromatographic performance. Along with the BEH particles using in ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 sorbent, this allows for the widest usable pH range, superior low pH stability, and ultra-low column bleed. In order to protect these columns and ensure peak performance and lifetimes, an ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 VanGuard Pre-column can be connected directly to the inlet, minimizing extra column volumes and reducing leaking through the elimination of additional connections.

Waters VanGuard Pre-columns are the first guard columns made specifically for UPLC and UHPLC applications, and this innovative piece of lab equipment can sustain pressures up to 18,000 psi. The packing materials used in the ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 VanGuard Pre-Column are identical to the packaging materials used in ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 Columns. The best performance will be achieved when the guard column and column use the same packing materials.

The goal of ACQUITY UPLC BEH C8 VanGuard Pre-column is to extend analytical column lifetimes without negatively impacting chromatographic performance in the related columns. Once attached to the corresponding column, Pre-columns will help to remove particulate and chemical contamination while upholding the efficiency of UPLC, UHPLC, and HPLC separation efficiencies.

As a universal solution to extend HPLC and UHPLC column lifetime, pre-columns are a cost-effective solution for columns. In order to achieve these results and the best possible analytical performance, guard columns should be used with the corresponding column packing material and accurate reference material such as Neutrals QC Reference Material.

What Solvents Are Appropriate For Use With VanGuard Pre-columns?

High-quality chromatography solvents should always be used in order to maximize column performance. Any solvents containing suspended particulate materials will generally clog the outside surface of an inlet distribution frit in your column, leading to higher operating pressure and poor performance. Filter all aqueous buffers through a 0.2 µm filter prior to use. Waters recommends Acrodisc filters by Pall Gelman Laboratory VanGuard products use PEEK sealing surfaces in order to ensure their leak-free connections. Some solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) could degrade the seal and promote premature leakage.
