Product Description

Atlantis HILIC Silica columns are used in combination with high organic mobile phases (>80% acetonitrile) to provide retention of analytes that are simply too polar to be retained by reverse-phase chromatography. HILIC separation mechanisms provide orthogonal analyte selectivity compared to traditional chromatographic reversed-phase approaches.

Atlantis Silica HILIC Column, 100Å, 3 µm, 4.6 mm X 150 mm, 1/pk

Retention and separation of very basic polar analytes is quite difficult with traditional reversed-phase chromatography. This happens because of their hydrophilic nature, combined with a net positive charge at acidic pH. The Atlantis Silica HILIC Column is based on HILIC - Hydrophilic Interaction Chromatography, which serves as an alternative separation technique that enables you to easily separate water-soluble, basic, polar, organic compounds. These compounds include peptides, metabolites, and actives.

The Atlantis Silica HILIC Column provides improved LC/ESI-MS response, direct compatibility with SPE solvents, and complementary selectivity in contrast to reversed-phase HPLC columns. This yields results that exhibit higher sensitivity and lower limits of detection--which is highly useful in drug metabolism studies as metabolites are typically more polar than their parent compounds and are present in significantly lower concentrations in samples.

Additionally, the Atlantis Silica HILIC Column provides universal compatibility with all LC detectors, and you get column-to-column reproducibility. When one is using the traditional chromatographic reversed-phase columns, severe peak tailing for polar bases is observed. However, the Atlantis Silica HILIC Column provides superior peak shapes for polar bases and results in faster and easier method development.

We recommend you shop for lab equipment directly from Waters’ website to ensure you get authentic equipment and have the option of reviewing the latest technological trends and available equipment for all your lab requirements from our extensive catalog.

You may also opt to get the Atlantis Silica HILIC VanGuard Cartridge, 100Å, 3 µm, 3.9 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk, which has been designed to work well with the Atlantis Silica HILIC Column. The VanGuard Cartridge helps in extending Column lifetime and performance by ensuring it is protected from impurities and chemical contaminants.

What Injection Solvents Are Recommended For HILIC?

100% Organic solvents are recommended for use with the Atlantis Silica HILIC Column. Weak HILIC solvents such as acetonitrile, isopropanol, and methanol can be used. To ensure you don't get poor peak shapes, water and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) should either be eliminated or used in extremely minimal amounts if absolutely necessary. You can replace water/DMSO with acetonitrile by using reversed-phase solid-phase extraction.
