Product Description

Atlantis HILIC Silica columns are used in combination with high organic mobile phases (>80% acetonitrile) to provide retention of analytes that are simply too polar to be retained by reverse-phase chromatography. HILIC separation mechanisms provide orthogonal analyte selectivity compared to traditional chromatographic reversed-phase approaches.

Atlantis Silica HILIC Column

Atlantis HILIC Silica columns are the perfect for drug metabolism, drug discovery, combinatorial chemistry, and many other scientists to separate compounds that reversed phase columns cannot. When used in combination with high organic mobile phases (>80% acetonitrile) this column provides excellent retention of analytes that are simply too polar to be retained by reverse-phase chromatography. HILIC separation mechanisms provide orthogonal analyte selectivity compared to traditional chromatographic reversed-phase approaches.

HILIC technology utilizes a weak solvent in the organic portion of the mobile phase, a strong solvent in the aqueous phase, and the compound elution is ordered by increasing hydrophilicity. Atlantis Silica HILIC Columns partition the polar analyte between a water rich and a water poor mobile phase. Our high quality silica stationary phases also create weak cation exchanges with negatively charged silanols for polar bases. The combination of these factors enables the Atlantis Silica HILIC Column to create incredible retention for highly polar basic analytes with net positive charge at acidic pHs. This feat is difficult to achieve with any other lab equipment.

The Atlantis HILIC Silica column offers you extremely high ESI-MS sensitivity and lower limits of detection. This enables detection with metabolites that are more polar than the parent compound and are present at much lower concentrations. This column can also dramatically increase your throughput and avoid the time consuming process of some sample preparation techniques. Solid-phase extraction and protein precipitation often have a final step involving a strong organic solvent that must be evaporated to be injected into a reversed phase column. This single step can account for 50% of the total time spent processing samples. The Atlantis HILIC Silica column is an incredibly powerful tool to maximize your efficiency and expand your separation capabilities.

Your valuable chromatography columns are at risk of harm from dangerous particulate contaminants every time you use them. These contaminants can cause a significant decrease in the lifetime of your columns and result in the need for costly frequent replacements. If you want to ensure that your Atlantis Silica HILIC Columns are protected from contamination you may want to check out the Atlantis Silica HILIC VanGuard Cartridge, 100Å, 3 µm, 2.1 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk. These cartridges are used to extend analytical column lifetime and boost performance by removing particulate contamination from the mobile phase stream. This cartridge is optimized to protect all 2.1 mm and 3.0 mm I.D. Atlantis HILIC analytical columns containing 3 µm sorbent particles.

How does HILC technology improve ESI-MS sensitivity?

In order to promote retention of highly polar analytes using-reversed phased chromatography, very weak mobile phases must be used. These highly aqueous mobile phases maximize the hydrophobic attraction between the analyte and the stationary phase. However, these non-volatile mobile phases are not ideal for compound ionization by ESI-MS, resulting in poor sensitivity. HILIC Silica helps to retain highly polar analytes with volatile mobile phases. This helps to increase sensitivity and lower limits of detection.
