Product Description

XTerra RP18 columns are general purpose, hybrid-based, reversed-phase C18 columns that incorporate Waters patented embedded polar group technology to improve peak shape performance for highly basic compounds. These first generation columns provide superior pH stability compared to a silica-based column.

XTerra Shield RP18 Column, 125Å, 3.5 µm, 4.6 mm X 150 mm, 1/pk

Combine the best properties of silica and polymeric bonded phases with patented Hybrid Particle Technology that replaces one out of every three silanols with a methyl group during particle synthesis with Waters’ XTerra Shield RP18 Column. Because this can only be achieved during the initial particle synthesis, and the inclusion of this methyl group is an integral part of the base particle backbone, chromatographers benefit from a mechanically strong particle that can be used for high pH separations with improved loading and peak shape in basic compounds.

XTerra Shield RP18 Columns are general-purpose, hybrid-based, reversed-phase C18 columns that incorporate Waters’ patented embedded polar group technology, leading to improved peak shape and performance. Compared to a silica-based column, these provide superior pH stability. Through Hybrid Particle Technology, XTerra RP18 Columns offer a rugged material that has high mechanical strength, high efficiency, excellent peak shape for bases, and easy scale-up from analytical to preparative chromatography. The BEH technology produces particles that improve column performance and lifetime under harsh and demanding liquid chromatography operating conditions. Paired with lab equipment like the XTerra Shield RP18 VanGuard Cartridge, 125Å, 3.5 µm, 3.9 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk, scientists will also benefit from an extended column lifetime.

The manufacturing of the XTerra Shield RP18 columns always begins with ultrapure reagents to control the chemical composition and purity of the Hybrid particle. From there, each manufacturing step is conducted within narrow tolerances that ensure reproducibility, and each column is individually tested. The manufacturing process takes place in the same cGMP, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 certified facilities as other leading HPLC columns, allowing method development scientists to feel confident in their separations reproducibility year over year.

What Is The Recommended pH Range For XTerra Columns?

XTerra columns offer a wide usable pH range when compared with silica-based columns. For RP columns, the pH range is 2-12. Though these columns have better lifetime performance, this is still finite depending on the buffers used, the concentration of buffers, and the temperatures used. The recommended temperature range is 20 to 60 degrees C for enhanced selectivity, lower solvent viscosity, and increased mass transfer rates. Note that high pH use of Phosphate is not recommended despite offering longer lifetimes than silica-based columns.
