Our results indicate that protein precipitation causes significant ion suppression and is the least effective sample preparation technique. SPE methods result in cleaner extracts. Mixed-mode (i.e. contains both reversed-phase and ion exchange retention mechanisms) SPE method eliminates matrix interferences effectively from biological samples. The remaining phospholipid matrix effects are less than 0.5%.
