Through theoretical and practical sessions students can now have the opportunity to generate and interpret mass data themselves. All the equipment and materials needed to support tutors is available in an affordable and convenient package including:
Handbooks to help integrate into your courseInformation and practical experiments have been developed and supplied in a Student handbook to support students in gaining a practical understanding of the fundamentals of mass spectrometry: the instrumentation and its component parts, instrument operation, acquisition and spectral interpretation and the generation of characteristic mass data as the basis of modern compound identification. A Laboratory Demonstrator handbook offers instructors additional background information for each topic, model answers for the experiment questions, and is supplemented by multimedia content to enrich the teaching of this series of practical experiments. |
Mass Spectral Data without the complexity of a Mass SpectrometerAs an intuitive and robust mass detector, the ACQUITY QDa is the perfect tool to introduce undergraduates to the principles of mass spectrometry and mass spectral interpretation. It is pre-optimized so students can operate it without specialised MS training as they do not have to make adjustments typical of traditional mass spectrometers. Start up at the beginning of class is fast and simple – just one button and the ACQUITY QDa is ready to run within minutes. Once the students have finished running their experiments they can simply power off, reducing the typical running costs versus traditional MS systems. At just 35.3 cm (13.9 in.) x 75.0 cm (29.5 in) including integrated pump – the same footprint as a chromatography stack – the ACQUITY QDa Detector will fit easily into most lab spaces. |
Straightforward Sample IntroductionA simple and accessible set-up using an isocratic pump and the ACQUITY Diverter Valve makes this system readily accessible to students who can make manual loop injections directly into the ACQUITY QDa. The cost, maintenance and training required for a chromatography inlet is not necessary to introduce mass spectral data to your students. However, should you wish for the ACQUITY QDa to be used for purposes other than teaching, an HPLC or UHPLC system can be easily switched in. |
Intelligent data processingThe ACQUITY QDa system is controlled and data is acquired and processed using MassLynx software. For your convenience, methods and sample lists which support the exercises in the handbooks have been pre-populated into the program so that your students can dedicate their time acquiring and analyzing the data. |
The Chemistry KitA chemical standards kit is included in the ACQUITY QDa Practical Educational Package. The kit includes all of the chemicals that are required to run the experiments described in the demonstrator handbooks. The nine standards that have been included in the chemistry kit are detailed in the table opposite |
