Summary
Recently, it has become evident that perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) such as perlfuorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are persistant organic pollutants (POPs) and are ubiquitous in the environment (Smithwick et al., 2005). Because PFCs may be toxic and have bioaccumulative properties, there is growing interest in the development of analytical methods for PFCs in food, drinking water, tissue, plasma and blood. In the presentation we will discuss sample preparation issues and instrumental requirements for UPLC /MS determination of PFCs in water and tissue samples. Among the topics will be the choice of solvent extraction and solid-phase extraction (SPE) methods used in sample preparation and the optimization of LC/MS for this analysis.
